Updates from our Spouses~
Hi OLT,
I just wanted to give you another update this week on my scores and what I have learned. We covered Chapters 2,3,4, & 5 this past week. I have already learned so many medical terms and am amazed by the end of the class I will have learned over 200 of them! That is mainly only counting the word roots such as -itis and -osis. There are many more words that are medical terms that aren't made from word roots such as Pap smear and asthma. It's all very interesting, but the hardest chapter was chapter 5 and it was on the reproductive system. Goodness, there is so much info there! I am happy to report though that my studying did pay off this week. I made all 100%s on all 4 chapter tests. It was from a lot of work and I am excited about being able to use all that I have learned. Thanks for giving me the opportunity.
Sincerely,
Jessica, AH Training - medical transcription
Hi! I hope you are doing well. My husband deployed last week, so things have been crazy! So, here's my update:
I recently started Session 1 with M-Tec. So far there has been a lot of reading, but it is all very interesting! It is amazing how much information is in the very first session! So far, I have started learning about human diseases, the basics of transcription, and become familiar with dozens of medical terms. Later in Session 1, I will try my very first transcription! Wish me luck!
Take care!

Greetings from Key West, Florida... well sort of. I am currently on emergency leave here and I am trying to do coursework while helping my family. My mother was in the hospital through last Thursday, I have been very busy with traveling back to the states and helping here that this week has a been a big sad zero on time spent on school. I have a heavy heart when I think about it. But, I am getting ready to start again here in the next day or so, now that she is home and things have slowed down. I brought all of my school books and foot pedal and I very eager to get back into things. I am trying to be optimistic of a 4 month goal, but realistically I am looking at 5-6 month goal due to this bump in the road. I am also worried that when return home on the 1st (which puts us at 3 weeks in the states) that we will have orders, so things may be hectic, yet my family has reassured me that this week I will have time for myself. And now that my mother is feeling better it will give me some free babysitting time! Ok, I will stop my venting, and just reassure you that things were going great with school and I can't wait to start again. Rebecca
The update on my end is I'm about 1/2 way finished with my second course, Anatomy. It has been a very tough class to handle but taking it one chapter at a time is the way I get it done. I will be finishing Anatomy the third week of May and then it will be the final course of Medical Transcription through graduation which should be the second week of September. I am anxious to use what I have learned. I have a wonderful teacher so I give her most of the credit! I will do my best to send you a picture as soon as I can. I have class tonight so I will try to take one tonight. Thanks for asking!
Jessica
Hi OLT
It was very refreshing to talk to you on the telephone today. It was fantastic to talk to someone who understands first hand the issues that military spouses face when trying to find employment. As you pointed out, for many of us, even the simplest of positions are out of reach because of our ‘pick-up and go’ lifestyles. I live in Sumter/Dalzell, an area that that has the 3rd highest unemployment rate for a military base on a national level, as well as a 9% unemployment rate (national rate is about 5%), according to my research this morning.
Your organization is much needed. I hope to get the word out to as many people as I can.
I appreciate the efforts you and your team have gone through to make this happen. If there is anything else I can do please let me know. I’ll do what I can.
I receved my package in the middle of April and currently in the first session in my M-TEC classes. So far I really like the school and they made the course very user friendly, not to mention I really like my instructor. I will get a picture as soon as I find my digital, kind of MIA currently (teenage daughter had it last). As far as an estimate of graduating, I really can't tell for sure. I would like to finish before the fall sometime, also depends on what may arise before then. I am still a reservist and have to do an annual tour in Germany in the summer which may put me a little further than I wanted. I will keep you posted as to where I am at in the course.
Thank you,
Laurie
